Unlock the Magic: Grow Your Own Mushrooms at Home!

Welcome to the transformative world of mushroom cultivation with our “3lb Grow Kit”! Whether you’re a seasoned mycologist or just stepping into this fascinating hobby, our kit is designed to make growing your own magic mushrooms both accessible and enjoyable. Get ready to embark on a unique journey of personal growth and exploration as you nurture these extraordinary fungi from spore to harvest.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

First things first—thank you for choosing our “Mushrooms in a Bag” kit! To ensure a magical harvest, it’s essential to follow the instructions closely. Mushroom cultivation is a delicate art, and even small deviations can impact your results. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 🍄 Mushrooms in a Bag Kit
  • 🧤 Nitrile or latex gloves
  • 💦 Spray bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol
  • 🚰 Spray bottle of previously boiled or distilled water
  • ✂️ Scissors or utility knife
  • 🔬 Spore syringe or liquid culture
  • 🧻 Kitchen paper towels (optional)
  • 🌈 Alcohol wipes (optional)
  • 🔥 Alcohol burner (optional)
  • 🏡 Fruiting chamber (optional)
  • 🌀 Rubber band (optional)

Step 2: Clean and Prep

For the best results, work in a clean, controlled environment like a still air box or under a laminar flow hood. If these aren’t available, a thoroughly sanitized area will do—just be aware of the increased risk of contamination.

  • a. Choose a workspace with minimal air movement. Close windows and doors, and turn off any heating or cooling units. Sanitize your surface and the Mushrooms in a Bag kit with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Allow it to dry completely before moving on.
  • b. Wear gloves and sanitize them with isopropyl alcohol.
  • c. If your spore syringe or liquid culture was refrigerated, bring it to room temperature before use.

Step 3: Inject Your Mushrooms in a Bag

  • a. Use a sterile needle to inject 5CC of liquid culture into the bag through the injection port. For extra security, tape over the port afterward to keep it sealed.
  • b. If you need to reuse the syringe, remember to sterilize the needle with alcohol or by flame. If using a flame, heat until the needle tip glows red, then allow it to cool before injecting.

Note: If your culture looks uneven, give it a gentle shake to disperse the mycelium before injecting.

IF YOU USE SPORES AND NOT LIQUID CULTURE DO NOT SHAKE AFTER INJECTING

Step 4: Storage and Colonization

  • a. Let your bag colonize undisturbed, out of direct sunlight. Keep the temperature between 55°F and 75°F for optimal growth. Higher temperatures encourage faster colonization.
  • b. After a few weeks, you’ll notice white mycelium spreading from the injection point. When it’s 3-4 inches in diameter, gently break up the colonized substrate and mix it with the uncolonized portion to speed up the process. If you injected spores and not liquid culture this will be the first time you shake.

Step 5: Initiate Fruiting

Once fully colonized, it’s time to fruit your mushrooms! For beginners, we recommend fruiting within the bag itself:

  • a. Sanitize your workspace, scissors, and the bag again with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  • b. Place a rubber band around the colonized block, about an inch below the surface. This helps prevent side pins from forming.
  • c. Cut a slit 4-5 inches above the substrate to allow fresh air exchange, and wait for primordia (baby mushrooms) to appear—usually within a week. This slit needs to be big enough to reach into and harvest mushrooms and could be cut like a hood.

Step 6: Harvesting Your Mushrooms

When the time comes, harvest your mushrooms with care:

  • Wash your hands or wear sterile gloves.
  • Gently twist and pull the mushrooms from the base of the stem.
  • If the mushrooms are too small, use tweezers for a delicate touch.

Step 7: Second and Subsequent Flushes

To encourage more mushrooms to grow:

  • Increase humidity by spraying the sides of the bag and taping your slit or hood cut in bag closed.
  • Close or tape the bag to trap in moisture and CO2, then repeat the process until the block is spent.

Lighting: Mushrooms need indirect light to grow—12 hours daily is ideal.

Temperature: Keep it between 60°F and 80°F for most species.

Fresh Air: Proper air exchange is key to triggering mushroom production.

Humidity: Maintain high humidity levels to support the growth of healthy mushrooms.

Troubleshooting

Cultivating mushrooms is an art that can require some experimentation. If your bag isn’t colonizing, be patient—some species take weeks or even months. And remember, our support team is always here to help if you run into any issues.
